Kendamil Formula Ingredients: What Parents Need to Know

Kendamil is a British baby formula brand manufactured in the United Kingdom. The business is family-owned and operated, and is based in the UK's pristine Lake District.¹ In its 60 years of operation, Kendamil has received various awards, such as Gold in the Project Baby Award 2026 for its follow-on milk, and the Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Many formulas rely primarily on skim milk and added vegetable fats, but Kendamil uses whole milk for its fat and dairy base. The company makes both cow's milk and goat milk formula, with product lines including Kendamil Classic, Kendamil Organic, and Kendamil Goat. The company proudly uses grass-fed cow and goat milk, and once the milk is collected, it is turned into formula within a few hours.

Ingredients with unfamiliar chemical names can look intimidating, but they are requirements for a nutritionally complete formula, and we're simply not used to seeing them in everyday ingredient lists.

DHA is an omega-3 fatty acid that supports healthy brain and eye development during infancy.⁸ While some formula brands obtain DHA from fish oil, Kendamil uses plant-based DHA sourced from marine algae. On the formula ingredient list, parents may see the algal source listed as Schizochytrium sp. This microorganism produces DHA-rich oil without requiring fish as the source.

Kendamil products also contain arachidonic acid (ARA), another long-chain fatty acid. ARA can be produced from sources such as Mortierella alpina, an oil-rich fungus.⁹

Some Kendamil products contain prebiotic oligosaccharides. Oligosaccharides are dietary fibers meant to mirror prebiotics found in breast milk, and can help feed beneficial bacteria in the gut. Kendamil Classic Stages 1 and 2 contain both GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides) and FOS (fructo-oligosaccharides), while Classic Stage 3, Organic Stages 1–3, and Goat Stages 1–3 contain GOS.

Kendamil Organic is the brand's certified organic cow's milk option. For parents specifically looking for an organic formula, its ingredient list is essentially the same as Kendamil Classic, while using organic ingredients when possible.

Kendamil Organic formula includes organic whole milk, lactose, skimmed milk, vegetable oils, whey proteins, and, depending on the market and stage, may include organic galacto-oligosaccharides.

The Organic line does contain an essential mix of vitamins and minerals, which makes up 2% or less of the formula. These, however, cannot be certified organic. This mix includes vitamins A, C, D3, E and K, B vitamins, calcium, zinc, iodine, selenium, magnesium and copper.

Kendamil Goat milk formula uses whole goat milk and goat whey proteins alongside lactose, vegetable oils, vitamins, minerals, and other required nutrients. Like the cow's milk formulas, Kendamil Goat does not contain palm oil or fish oil. The whole goat milk naturally provides milk fat, while added oils help create the required fatty-acid balance.

Goat milk formula should not automatically be considered an alternative for babies with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Cow's milk and goat milk proteins are similar enough that babies who react to cow's milk proteins may also react to goat milk proteins.
