Holle Organic Goat Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months

Holle Organic Goat Formula Stage 1 is a Demeter biodynamic infant formula for babies from birth to around 6 months. Built on whole goat milk powder from Demeter-certified farms, it offers a gentle alternative to cow milk formulas for families curious about goat milk nutrition. Holle has been producing organic baby food in Germany since 1933, and this stage carries its highest certification tier. As always, breast milk is the ideal nutrition for newborns, and this formula is designed to be a close, clean second when breastfeeding is not possible or is supplemented. Please talk with your pediatrician before introducing any formula.

Holle and Demeter Biodynamic Farming

Founded in 1933 and based in Riehen, Switzerland, Holle has built its reputation on a commitment to biodynamic and organic agriculture. Its formulas are manufactured in Germany, where the company maintains close ties with Demeter-certified farms. Demeter biodynamic certification goes beyond standard organic requirements, governing the entire farm ecosystem, including soil health, animal welfare, and crop rotation.

Holle Goat Stage 1 carries full Demeter certification, with a Demeter ingredient share of 67 percent. This reflects the rigor Holle applies to its earliest stage formulas, which nourish babies during their most critical developmental window.

A Goat Milk Formula from Birth to Six Months

This Stage 1 formula uses whole goat milk powder as its primary ingredient, in contrast to cow milk formulas that rely on skimmed milk and whey. Whole goat milk is naturally higher in A2 beta-casein protein compared to standard cow milk, which some parents and caregivers find appealing. However, goat milk formula is not hypoallergenic and is not suitable for infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy due to the risk of cross-reactivity. If your baby has a suspected or confirmed allergy, please consult a medical professional before choosing this formula.

Ingredients and Composition

The carbohydrate source in Stage 1 is lactose only, with no maltodextrin or starch added. This mirrors the composition of breast milk and is appropriate for a newborn's digestive system. Vegetable oils are limited to sunflower oil and rapeseed oil. This formula contains no palm oil.

DHA is provided by oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp., and ARA is present, sourced from Mortierella alpina oil. Both DHA and ARA are included in line with EU mandatory standards for infant formula, supporting brain and eye development in the first months of life.

Authentic European Formula, Shipped to the US

Organic Formula Europe imports authentic Holle products directly from Europe and ships them to customers in the United States. Every can you receive is the same product sold in European pharmacies and health food stores, unopened and within its original shelf life.

The EU organic and Demeter certifications on the label are issued under European regulatory standards. These are not USDA organic certifications, which are a separate US-specific standard, but they reflect an equally rigorous approach to organic agriculture.

Preparation and Daily Use

Prepare each feeding fresh using water at the temperature stated on the can. Discard any formula left in the bottle after a feeding and never save it for later. Sterilize bottles and all feeding equipment before each use, especially in the early weeks.

Powdered infant formula is not sterile. Follow the preparation instructions on the packaging carefully at every feed.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

Is Holle Organic Goat Formula Stage 1 suitable for newborns?

Yes, Holle Organic Goat Formula Stage 1 is specially designed for infants from birth up to 6 months of age. This gentle formula provides complete nutrition for your newborn, whether you're using it as a supplement to breastfeeding or as a primary feeding option. Made with whole organic goat milk from Demeter-certified farms, it contains all the essential nutrients your baby needs during these crucial first months of development.

Why might goat milk formula be easier for my baby to digest than cow milk formula?

Goat milk has a naturally different protein structure compared to cow milk, which many babies find gentler on their digestive systems. The proteins in goat milk form smaller, softer curds in your baby's stomach, making them easier to break down. Additionally, goat milk naturally contains A2 proteins, which some research suggests may be better tolerated by sensitive tummies. If your little one experiences discomfort with traditional cow milk Baby Formulas, Holle's goat milk formula could be a wonderful alternative to explore.

What makes Holle Goat Formula Stage 1 different from other organic formulas?

Holle Goat Formula Stage 1 stands out with its prestigious Demeter certification, representing the highest standard in organic farming worldwide. This means the goats are raised on biodynamic farms with exceptional animal welfare standards and sustainable farming practices. The formula contains no palm oil, artificial preservatives, chemicals, or added sugars. Instead, it features organic lactose as the primary carbohydrate, closely resembling what's naturally found in breast milk, along with essential vitamins A, B12, C, D, and important minerals like iron, calcium, and zinc.

How do I know if my baby is thriving on Holle Goat Formula Stage 1?

Signs that your baby is doing well on this formula include steady weight gain, regular bowel movements, contentment after feedings, and good sleep patterns. Many parents report improvements in common feeding issues like gas, constipation, and spit-up after switching to Holle Goat Milk Formula. Your baby should have plenty of wet diapers throughout the day and appear satisfied between feedings. Always consult with your pediatrician about your baby's growth and development to ensure they're meeting their milestones.

Can I switch directly from breast milk or another formula to Holle Goat Stage 1?

While many babies transition smoothly to Holle Goat Formula Stage 1, it's generally recommended to make any formula change gradually over 5-7 days. Start by mixing a small amount of the new formula with your current feeding method, then gradually increase the ratio of Holle Goat formula over the transition period. This gentle approach helps your baby's digestive system adjust and allows you to monitor how well they tolerate the new formula. If you have any concerns during the transition, don't hesitate to reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.
