Holle Organic Goat Formula Stage 1 is a Demeter biodynamic infant formula for babies from birth to around 6 months. Built on whole goat milk powder from Demeter-certified farms, it offers a gentle alternative to cow milk formulas for families curious about goat milk nutrition. Holle has been producing organic baby food in Germany since 1933, and this stage carries its highest certification tier. As always, breast milk is the ideal nutrition for newborns, and this formula is designed to be a clean second option when breastfeeding is not possible or is supplemented. Holle and Demeter Biodynamic Farming
Founded in 1933 and based in Riehen, Switzerland, Holle has built its reputation on a commitment to biodynamic and organic agriculture. Its formulas are manufactured in Germany, where the company maintains close ties with Demeter-certified farms. Demeter biodynamic certification goes beyond standard EU organic requirements, governing the entire farm ecosystem, including soil health, animal welfare, and crop rotation.
Holle Goat Stage 1 carries full Demeter certification, with a Demeter ingredient share of 67 percent. This reflects the rigor Holle applies to its earliest stage formulas, which nourish babies during their most critical developmental window.
A Goat Milk Formula from Birth to Six Months
This Stage 1 formula uses whole goat milk powder as its primary ingredient, in contrast to cow milk formulas that rely on skimmed milk and whey. Whole goat milk is naturally higher in A2 beta-casein protein compared to standard cow milk, which some parents and caregivers find appealing. However, goat milk formula is not hypoallergenic and is not suitable for infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy due to the risk of cross-reactivity. Ingredients and Composition
The carbohydrate source in Stage 1 is lactose only, with no maltodextrin or starch added. Vegetable oils are limited to sunflower oil and rapeseed oil. This formula contains no palm oil.
DHA is provided by oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp., and ARA is present, sourced from Mortierella alpina oil. DHA is included in line with EU mandatory standards for infant formula, supporting the normal development of your baby in the first months of life while the ARA is an optional addition Holle chose to include.

Preparation and Daily Use
Prepare each feeding fresh using water at the temperature stated on the can. Discard any formula left in the bottle after a feeding and never save it for later. Sterilize bottles and all feeding equipment before each use, especially in the early weeks.
Powdered infant formula is not sterile. Follow the preparation instructions on the packaging carefully at every feed.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula
- Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
- Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
- Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
- Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
- Add the remaining water and shake again.
- Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.
Important Information
- Only use the scoop included in the package.
- Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
- Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
- Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
- Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
- Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.
