Holle Goat Dutch Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months

Holle Goat Dutch Formula Stage 1 is a Demeter biodynamic goat milk infant formula crafted for babies from birth to 6 months. Built on a whole goat milk base and produced in Germany to stringent EU standards, it reflects the values of a brand that has been making organic baby food since 1933. Breast milk is always the first recommendation, and this formula is designed to support babies whose families choose or need to supplement. Speak with your pediatrician before starting or switching any infant formula.

Holle: Over 90 Years of Biodynamic Expertise

Founded in 1933 and headquartered in Riehen, Switzerland, Holle has been one of Europe's most trusted organic baby food producers for over 90 years. Its formulas are made in Germany and held to Demeter biodynamic certification, the most rigorous tier of organic farming in Europe. Demeter goes beyond standard EU organic requirements by demanding full ecosystem management at the farm level, covering soil health, biodiversity, and animal welfare.

This Stage 1 formula carries a total Demeter share of 67 percent, meaning most of its ingredients come from certified biodynamic sources. It is free from synthetic preservatives, artificial colors and flavorings, GMOs, added sugar, corn syrup, soy, and gluten. Browse the full Holle goat milk formula range to compare stages and find what fits your baby's feeding journey.

A Whole Goat Milk Formula for Newborns

Stage 1 is designed for infants from birth to 6 months and serves as a complete nutrition source during this period. The formula uses full-cream goat milk and goat milk powder as its base, meaning the fat and protein profile reflects whole goat milk rather than a reconstituted skimmed milk blend. Goat milk contains naturally higher levels of A2 beta-casein protein compared to standard cow milk formulas, which some parents find suits their baby's digestion well.

It is important to understand that goat milk formula is not hypoallergenic. Because of cross-reactivity between goat and cow milk proteins, it is not a safe substitute for infants with a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy. If your baby has been diagnosed with such an allergy, consult your pediatrician for appropriate medical guidance before selecting a formula.

Ingredients and Nutrition Highlights

The carbohydrate source in Stage 1 is lactose only, with no maltodextrin or starch added. Lactose is the primary carbohydrate in breast milk, so this formula aligns closely with that natural profile at this early stage. The vegetable oil blend is based on sunflower oil and rapeseed oil, and this formula contains no palm oil.

DHA is provided by oil from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp., a plant-based omega-3 source. ARA is also present, sourced from Mortierella alpina oil. Both support healthy brain and visual development. The formula does not contain added probiotic cultures.

Authentic European Formula, Delivered to the US

EU infant formula regulations require DHA in every infant formula and set detailed nutrient standards that go beyond current US requirements in several areas. Holle Goat Dutch Formula Stage 1 meets those EU standards and is shipped to US families as an authentic import through Organic Formula Europe's Holle Dutch Formula collection.

Cans are shipped unopened directly from Europe. The expiration date on the can is printed in European DD/MM/YYYY format, so note that a date reading 01/06/2026 means June 1, 2026, not January 6.

Preparing Bottles Safely

Always follow the preparation instructions on the can. Use freshly boiled water and allow it to cool to the temperature specified on the label before adding powder. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so careful preparation hygiene matters. Prepare each bottle fresh, use the scoop included in the can, and measure only the amount the instructions direct. Do not store or reheat prepared bottles.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

What makes Holle Goat Dutch Formula Stage 1 different from cow milk formulas?

The Holle Goat Dutch Formula Stage 1 is crafted with whole organic goat milk, which naturally contains A2 protein that may be easier for sensitive tummies to digest. Goat milk is naturally rich in vitamins A, C, and D, along with calcium that supports your baby's healthy bone development. Many parents find that their little ones who experience discomfort with cow milk formulas do better with goat milk options, as the protein structure is slightly different and may be gentler on developing digestive systems.

How do I properly prepare a bottle of Holle Goat Dutch Stage 1?

Start by boiling fresh water and letting it cool to about 120°F (50°C). Pour two-thirds of the needed water into a clean, sterilized bottle. Add one leveled scoop of formula powder for every ounce (30ml) of water, using only the scoop provided in your formula container. Cap the bottle and shake vigorously until the powder dissolves completely. Add the remaining water and shake again. Cool the bottle to drinking temperature, around 98°F (37°C), and always test on your wrist before feeding. Remember to prepare fresh bottles for each feeding and never microwave the formula.

How long can I store Holle Goat Dutch Formula once opened?

Once you open the inner foil bag of your Holle Goat Dutch Formula, you should use it within 2 to 3 weeks for optimal freshness and nutritional value. Store the opened container in a cool, dry place away from heat and humidity. Prepared bottles should be consumed immediately, but if necessary, unused prepared formula can be kept at room temperature for up to 2 hours or in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Any formula left in the bottle after feeding should be discarded within one hour.

Is Holle Goat Dutch Stage 1 suitable for newborns?

Yes, Holle Goat Dutch Stage 1 is specially formulated for babies from birth to 6 months old. This clean, organic formula provides all the essential nutrients your newborn needs during those crucial early months of development. It's free from soy, gluten, GMOs, sugar, and corn syrup, making it an excellent choice for parents seeking pure nutrition. The formula meets strict EU organic standards and is produced from goats raised according to Demeter biodynamic farming practices.

Can I switch between different Holle formulas as my baby grows?

Absolutely! Holle makes transitioning easy with their complete range of Organic Formulas. As your baby approaches 6 months, you can smoothly transition to Holle Goat Dutch Stage 2, and later to Stage 3 for babies 10 months and older. Each stage is specifically formulated to meet your growing baby's changing nutritional needs. The familiar taste and consistent quality across stages help ensure a smooth transition that your little one will readily accept.
