HiPP HA Formula Stage 2 for Babies 6 to 12 Months

HiPP HA Formula Stage 2 is a hypoallergenic follow-on formula for babies from 6 months, formulated with hydrolyzed whey protein from cow's milk to help reduce allergy risk as infants transition to complementary feeding. Like Stage 1, it is not an organic formula and is not suitable for infants with a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy. Speak with a pediatrician before choosing this formula, especially where allergies are a concern. Breast milk remains the gold standard for infant nutrition.

More Than 125 Years of HiPP Quality

HiPP was established in 1899 by Joseph and Maria Hipp in Germany and remains a family business in its fourth generation. The company's long history in infant nutrition, combined with continuous product research, has made it one of the most trusted formula brands in European pharmacies.

HiPP HA Stage 2 is manufactured in Germany to HiPP's internal quality standards and is Halal certified. It also includes Metafolin, the active form of folate. The HA line does not carry EU organic or Demeter certification, as hydrolyzed milk protein cannot currently be certified organic.

Hypoallergenic Follow-On Formula from 6 Months

Stage 2 continues the hydrolyzed whey protein approach from Stage 1, maintaining a consistent protein format as babies begin eating solid foods alongside formula. The nutrient profile is adjusted for older infants, with iron and other micronutrients calibrated for the 6-month-plus developmental stage.

This formula is designed for allergy-risk reduction in infants with a family history of atopy. It is not a treatment for a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. For infants with confirmed CMPA, an extensively hydrolyzed or amino-acid-based formula is required under medical guidance. Explore the full HiPP HA formula range for more information.

Ingredients and Composition

The protein source is hydrolyzed cow's milk whey protein. Carbohydrates are provided by lactose, with no starch or maltodextrin in the ingredient list. The formula contains palm oil as part of the vegetable oil blend. No thickener is present.

DHA is derived from fish oil. ARA is not present in Stage 2. GOS prebiotics (sourced from bio-lactose) and probiotic cultures are included as part of the Combiotik composition. The formula also contains Metafolin, the bioactive form of folic acid.

Genuine German Formula, Shipped to US Families

HiPP HA Stage 2 is produced in Germany and widely available in European pharmacies. Organic Formula Europe imports factory-sealed cans directly from European distributors, so the product you receive is the same as what German and Dutch families use.

Each can carries an expiration date in European DD/MM/YYYY format. EU regulations mandate DHA in all infant and follow-on formulas, a standard that is not yet required in the US. See our HiPP hypoallergenic formula collection for related products.

Preparation and Everyday Use

Follow the preparation instructions on the can precisely. Prepare each bottle fresh using boiled water and do not store prepared formula. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, and safe preparation practices should always be followed.

If your baby began with HiPP HA Stage 1, Stage 2 provides a consistent hydrolyzed protein experience through the weaning months. Discuss any feeding changes with your pediatrician.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

What makes HiPP HA Stage 2 different from regular infant formulas?

HiPP HA Stage 2 is specifically designed for babies with sensitive tummies and potential allergies. Unlike regular formulas from Organic Formulas, this hypoallergenic option features hydrolyzed whey protein that has been broken down into smaller pieces, making it much easier for sensitive babies to digest. The formula also includes prebiotics and probiotics to support healthy gut development, which is especially important for babies prone to digestive issues.

Is HiPP HA Stage 2 suitable for babies with diagnosed milk protein allergies?

While HiPP HA Stage 2 can help many babies with cow's milk protein sensitivity, it's important to understand that this is a specialty formula rather than a medical treatment. The hydrolyzed proteins make it gentler on sensitive systems, but it may not be suitable for all babies with diagnosed milk protein allergies. Always consult with your pediatrician before switching to this or any HiPP Hypoallergenic Formula to ensure it's the right choice for your baby's specific needs.

Why isn't HiPP HA Stage 2 certified as organic like other HiPP formulas?

Although HiPP is known for its high-quality organic products, the HA line cannot be certified as organic because hydrolyzed milk protein isn't available in organic form. The hydrolysis process that breaks down the proteins for easier digestion requires specialized processing that doesn't meet organic certification standards. However, the formula still maintains HiPP's strict quality standards and is manufactured in Germany according to rigorous EU regulations.

Can I use HiPP HA Stage 2 to supplement breastfeeding?

Yes, HiPP HA Stage 2 is designed for babies six months and older and can be used for both supplementing and replacing breastfeeding. The formula's structure closely resembles breast milk, providing similar minerals and nutrients that support your baby's development. Its gentle, hydrolyzed protein formula makes it an excellent choice for babies who need supplementation but have shown signs of sensitivity to regular formulas.

What symptoms might indicate my baby needs a hypoallergenic formula like HiPP HA Stage 2?

Babies who might benefit from HiPP HA Stage 2 often experience persistent gastrointestinal issues such as excessive gas, bloating, or irregular bowel movements. Other signs include skin rashes, eczema, or hay fever-like symptoms that may be triggered by sensitivity to proteins in regular formulas. If your baby shows any of these symptoms with standard formulas, discussing a hypoallergenic option with your pediatrician could provide the relief your little one needs.
