HiPP HA Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months
HiPP HA Formula Stage 1 is a hypoallergenic infant formula for babies from birth to 6 months, formulated with hydrolyzed whey protein from cow's milk to help reduce the risk of allergic sensitization in infants with a family history of allergy. It is not an organic formula and is not suitable as a treatment for a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy. Parents should consult a pediatrician before choosing this formula, especially if there is concern about allergies. Breast milk remains the recommended first choice for all infants.
HiPP's Expertise in Infant Formula Since 1899
HiPP was founded in 1899 by Joseph and Maria Hipp in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Germany. Over more than 125 years, the family-run company, now in its fourth generation, has built a reputation for rigorous quality control and deep expertise in infant nutrition.
The HiPP HA range is produced at HiPP's German manufacturing facilities and is widely used across Europe. While the HA line does not carry an EU organic or Demeter certification (hydrolyzed milk protein cannot currently be sourced as certified organic), it is manufactured to HiPP's own quality standards and is Halal certified.
What Is a Hypoallergenic Formula and Who Is It For
HiPP HA Stage 1 uses a hydrolyzed whey protein base. The whey proteins are broken down into smaller fragments, which may reduce the likelihood that the infant's immune system reacts to them. This approach is often called a partially hydrolyzed formula (pHF) in scientific literature and is used as an allergy-risk-reduction measure for healthy infants with a family history of atopy.
This formula is not appropriate for infants with a confirmed or suspected cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA). A diagnosed CMPA requires extensively hydrolyzed or amino-acid-based formula prescribed under medical supervision. If you have concerns about your baby's reaction to cow's milk protein, speak with a pediatrician before selecting any formula. See our HiPP hypoallergenic formula and HiPP HA formula pages for more context.
Ingredients and Composition
The protein source is hydrolyzed cow's milk whey protein. The carbohydrate source is lactose (natural milk sugar), with no added starch or maltodextrin. The formula contains palm oil as part of the vegetable oil blend.
DHA is present and derived from fish oil. ARA is present via Mortierella alpina oil. GOS prebiotics (from bio-lactose) and probiotic cultures are included as part of the Combiotik composition. No thickener is present in this formula.
Imported Directly from Germany
HiPP HA Stage 1 is produced in Germany and sold across European pharmacies. Organic Formula Europe imports genuine factory-sealed cans and ships them directly to US families. The product is identical to what European families and pediatricians use, with no reformulation.
Each can carries an expiration date in European DD/MM/YYYY format. EU infant formula regulations require DHA in every infant formula sold in Europe, a standard not yet mandatory in the US market.
Preparation and Storage
Always follow the feeding and preparation instructions on the can. Prepare each bottle fresh and do not store prepared formula. Powdered infant formula is not a sterile product; CDC and WHO guidance on safe preparation temperatures is available from your healthcare provider.
If your baby is approaching 6 months and currently on Stage 1, HiPP HA Stage 2 is available to continue the same hydrolyzed protein approach through the complementary feeding phase.
Packaging at a Glance
- 600g resealable can
- Includes a measuring scoop
- European date format (DD/MM/YYYY) on the base of the can
- Not EU organic certified
How to Prepare Powdered Formula
- Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
- Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
- Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
- Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
- Add the remaining water and shake again.
- Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.
Important Information
- Only use the scoop included in the package.
- Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
- Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
- Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
- Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
- Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.
