HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Formula Stage 2 for Babies 6 to 12 Months

HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Formula Stage 2 is a partially hydrolyzed follow-on formula for infants from 6 months who have been fed on an HA formula from birth and are continuing an allergy-risk-reduction approach alongside solid foods. As always, the decision to use and continue a hypoallergenic formula should be made in consultation with your pediatrician. Breast milk can remain a valuable part of your baby's diet through the first year.

HiPP: A Trusted Name in European Infant Nutrition

HiPP has been developing infant formula since 1899 in Germany and is today one of Europe's most recognized names in baby nutrition. The company is family-owned, led by Stefan Hipp in its fourth generation, and is known for rigorous ingredient standards across its product ranges.

Like Stage 1, HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 is not EU organic certified. Because partially hydrolyzed whey protein cannot be produced in certified organic form, the HA line sits outside the organic labeling framework. It is Halal-certified.

Continuing the HA Journey from 6 Months

Stage 2 is formulated for babies from 6 months who are beginning to eat solid foods and transitioning from HiPP Dutch HA Formula Stage 1. It continues the partially hydrolyzed whey protein approach designed to support ongoing allergy-risk reduction during the weaning period.

As with Stage 1, this formula is not suitable for infants with a diagnosed cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA). Partially hydrolyzed formula is a preventive option for at-risk infants, not a treatment for confirmed allergy. If your child has a confirmed CMPA diagnosis, your doctor will recommend an appropriate extensively hydrolyzed or amino-acid-based alternative.

Ingredients and Composition

The protein base is partially hydrolyzed cow's milk whey. The carbohydrate source is lactose with galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) derived from lactose. No starch or maltodextrin is listed in Stage 2. The vegetable oil blend includes palm oil from sustainable cultivation. DHA is sourced from fish oil.

ARA is not present in Stage 2 (it is present in Stage 1 but not in the follow-on stage). The formula is not organic certified, and does not carry the EU organic leaf logo or HiPP Bio-Siegel. See the full HiPP hypoallergenic formula collection for the complete HA range.

Preparation and Everyday Use

Prepare each feed fresh following the instructions on the can. At this stage, formula feeds are one part of a broader diet that includes solid foods. Your pediatrician can advise on the appropriate volume and frequency of formula alongside weaning.

Powdered infant formula is not sterile. Use boiled, appropriately cooled water as directed, and do not store reconstituted formula beyond the manufacturer's recommended time.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

What makes HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Stage 2 different from regular HiPP formulas?

HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Stage 2 is specially designed for babies with sensitive tummies or those at risk of developing allergies. Through a process called extensive hydrolyzation, the whey proteins are broken down into smaller pieces, making them easier to digest and less likely to trigger allergic reactions. Unlike regular formulas from Organic Formulas, this hypoallergenic version also contains specific prebiotics and probiotics that strengthen the intestinal wall and support a healthy gut microbiome, which research has shown can help reduce allergic responses.

When should I transition my baby to HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2?

HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 is designed for babies from 6 to 12 months old who are beginning their weaning journey. This follow-on formula is perfect when your little one starts exploring solid foods alongside their bottle feedings. It contains higher levels of iron to support cognitive development and increased amounts of vitamins D, C, and A to boost immune health compared to Stage 1. Many parents find the transition from earlier HiPP Hypoallergenic Formula stages to be smooth and report that their babies readily accept the familiar taste.

Is HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 suitable for babies with confirmed milk protein allergies?

While HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 is designed to be gentle and reduce allergic reactions, it may not be suitable for babies with severe or confirmed cow's milk protein allergies. The formula contains hydrolyzed whey proteins, which are still derived from cow's milk, though they're broken down into smaller pieces. For babies with confirmed allergies, it's essential to consult with your pediatrician before choosing any formula. They can help determine if this hypoallergenic option is appropriate for your baby's specific needs.

What ingredients should I expect in HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2?

HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 is made with carefully selected organic ingredients that support your baby's growth and development. The formula is 100% lactose-based, providing natural sweetness without any added sugars or corn syrup. It contains hydrolyzed whey proteins for easy digestion, essential fatty acids including DHA and ARA for brain development, and a comprehensive vitamin and mineral blend. Additionally, it includes prebiotics and probiotics that are recommended by the World Allergy Organization for allergy prevention. The formula is completely free from GMOs, gluten, soy, nuts, eggs, and artificial additives.

How do I prepare HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 properly?

Preparing HiPP Dutch HA Stage 2 is straightforward and similar to other powder formulas. Always wash your hands and sterilize all feeding equipment before preparation. Boil fresh water and let it cool to approximately 104°F (40°C). Add the required amount of water to the bottle first, then add the corresponding number of level scoops of powder using the scoop provided. Close the bottle and shake well until the powder is completely dissolved. Always check the temperature before feeding and use prepared formula within one hour. Never reuse leftover formula, and always follow the mixing instructions on the package for the correct water-to-powder ratio.
