HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months

HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Formula Stage 1 is a partially hydrolyzed infant formula for babies from birth to 6 months whose family history puts them at elevated risk of developing allergies. It is designed as a preventive option, not as a treatment for a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA). Always speak with your pediatrician before choosing this formula, and keep in mind that breast milk remains the optimal source of nutrition for newborns.

HiPP: Over 125 Years of Infant Formula Development

Founded in 1899 in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Germany, HiPP is one of Europe's longest-established infant nutrition companies. The family-owned business, now in its fourth generation under Stefan Hipp, brings more than a century of expertise to every product it makes.

The Dutch HA line is part of HiPP's Dutch-market range. Because partially hydrolyzed whey protein cannot be sourced in certified organic form, this formula does not carry EU organic certification. It is not the HiPP Bio-Siegel organic range. It is Halal-certified.

Partially Hydrolyzed Whey for Allergy-Risk Reduction

The distinguishing feature of the HA (hypoallergenic) line is its protein source: the cow's milk whey has been partially hydrolyzed, meaning the proteins are broken into smaller fragments. This process is associated with a reduced risk of developing allergic sensitization in infants with a family history of allergy.

It is critical to understand that partially hydrolyzed formula is not appropriate for babies who have already been diagnosed with cow's milk protein allergy. For those infants, an extensively hydrolyzed or amino-acid-based formula prescribed by a doctor is required. This product is a preventive measure for at-risk but currently healthy infants, used under pediatrician guidance.

Ingredients and Composition

The protein base is partially hydrolyzed cow's milk whey. The carbohydrate source is lactose, supplemented with galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) from lactose. No starch or maltodextrin is listed in this stage. The vegetable oil blend includes palm oil (from sustainable cultivation). DHA is provided from fish oil and ARA is present, sourced from Mortierella alpina oil.

As noted above, this formula is not organic certified. The HiPP hypoallergenic formula collection page has further information on the full HA range available for US families.

Imported Directly from Europe

Organic Formula Europe sources each can of HiPP Dutch HA Formula directly from European stock and ships it to the US. You receive the authentic Dutch-market product with its original EU labeling, including the best-before date in DD/MM/YYYY format.

Specialist importation ensures that the product you receive is the genuine article and has been handled correctly throughout. Explore the HiPP HA formula range to see how Stage 1 fits within HiPP's broader hypoallergenic offering.

Preparation and Everyday Use

Always prepare each feed according to the instructions on the can and never alter the concentration. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so use water that has been boiled and cooled to the appropriate temperature, and prepare feeds fresh for each session.

If you are considering transitioning from or to this formula, or if your baby shows any signs of allergy during feeding, speak with your healthcare provider promptly.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

What makes HiPP Dutch Hypoallergenic Formula Stage 1 different from regular baby formulas?

HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 is specially designed for babies with sensitive tummies from birth to 6 months. Unlike regular formulas, it contains extensively hydrolyzed whey proteins that are broken down into smaller particles, making them much easier for your baby's delicate digestive system to process. This HiPP Hypoallergenic Formula also includes prebiotics and probiotics to support healthy gut development, plus it's completely free from soy, gluten, GMOs, and artificial additives that could trigger sensitivities.

Is HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 suitable for babies with cow's milk protein allergy?

While HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 features hydrolyzed proteins that are gentler on sensitive stomachs and may help reduce allergic reactions, it's important to note that this formula is made with hydrolyzed cow's milk proteins. If your baby has been diagnosed with a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA), this formula may not be appropriate. Always consult with your pediatrician before introducing any new formula, especially if allergies are a concern. They can help determine whether this hydrolyzed formula is the right choice for your little one's specific needs.

How does HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 compare to the German version?

Both the Dutch and German versions of HiPP HA Stage 1 share the same high-quality recipe and commitment to Organic Baby Formula from Europe. The main differences are practical ones: HiPP Dutch HA comes in larger 800g tins compared to the German 600g boxes, and the Dutch version contains slightly higher protein levels (1.8g per 100ml versus 1.3g per 100ml) to support your baby's growth and development. Both versions meet strict European organic standards and are manufactured in Germany.

Can I use HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 alongside breastfeeding?

Absolutely! HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 is designed to work beautifully as either a complete feeding solution or as a supplement to breastfeeding. Its gentle, hydrolyzed formula provides flexibility for your feeding routine while ensuring your baby receives all the essential nutrients needed for healthy development. The addition of prebiotics and probiotics helps mirror the beneficial components found in breast milk, supporting your baby's developing immune system and digestive health.

What ingredients should I expect to find in HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1?

HiPP Dutch HA Stage 1 contains hydrolyzed whey protein as its base, making it easier to digest than standard formulas. It includes essential vitamins A, C, and D for immune support, galacto-oligosaccharides derived from lactose, and organic lactic acid bacteria cultures for digestive health. The formula is manufactured following strict European organic standards, ensuring it's free from pesticides, steroids, growth hormones, unnecessary antibiotics, corn syrup, and refined sugars. This pure, thoughtfully crafted formula provides complete nutrition while being gentle on sensitive tummies.
