Kendamil Classic Infant Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months

Kendamil Classic Infant Formula Stage 1 is designed for babies from birth to 6 months as a complete sole-source nutrition when breastfeeding is not possible or is supplemented. Made by a family-owned British company with roots in Kendal, Cumbria going back to 1962, this formula brings a distinctive whole-milk recipe to parents who want a clean, palm-oil-free option. As with any formula decision, a conversation with your pediatrician is a good first step.

A British Brand Built on Whole Milk

Kendamil was founded by the McMahon family in Kendal, Cumbria, England, with the factory tracing its history to 1962 and the Kendamil brand launching in 2016. The company remains family-owned today, with Will and Dylan McMahon among the co-founders alongside Ross McMahon.

What sets Kendamil apart across its entire range is the use of whole cow's milk rather than skimmed milk with added vegetable fats. Whole milk naturally provides a broader fat profile and a composition that many parents find appealing. EU-market cans sold through Organic Formula Europe are labeled Product of the EU.

The Classic line is a non-organic, conventionally produced cow-milk formula. If you are looking for Kendamil's certified-organic option, see the Kendamil Formula Stage 1 collection page for a comparison of lines available at this stage.

Stage 1: Designed for the Newborn Through 6-Month Stage

Stage 1 infant formula is suitable from birth and supports your baby as their primary or sole nutrition source during the first six months of life. Kendamil Classic Stage 1 is formulated to meet EU infant formula regulations, which set mandatory minimums and maximums for key nutrients.

The Classic line is vegetarian friendly. DHA, the long-chain omega-3 fatty acid required in EU infant formula, is sourced from marine microalgae (Schizochytrium sp.) rather than fish oil, keeping the formula suitable for vegetarian families. ARA (arachidonic acid) is also included, sourced from Mortierella alpina oil.

Ingredients and Composition

The formula is built on a whole-cow-milk base. Carbohydrates come from lactose, Kendamil's prebiotic blend includes galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) and fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS), and no maltodextrin or starch is listed in the Classic Stage 1 recipe.

Vegetable oils used are sunflower, coconut, and rapeseed. No palm oil is used in Kendamil Classic Stage 1. DHA is supplied by algae oil from Schizochytrium sp., and ARA is supplied by oil from Mortierella alpina, both in line with EU requirements.

European Quality and Ordering From Organic Formula Europe

Kendamil Classic is produced to EU infant formula standards, which require DHA inclusion and set strict limits on contaminants and nutrient levels. The EU regulatory framework is among the most rigorous for infant nutrition globally.

Organic Formula Europe ships authentic EU-market cans directly to customers in the United States. Every can arrives sealed and labeled as it would be on European store shelves, including the European best-before date format (DD/MM/YYYY). You can browse the full Kendamil range on the Kendamil Formula collection page.

Preparation and Everyday Use

Always prepare Kendamil Classic Stage 1 following the instructions printed on the can. Use freshly boiled water that has been allowed to cool to the temperature specified on the label, and measure powder with the enclosed scoop. Prepared formula should be used promptly and any unused portion discarded.

Powdered infant formula is not sterile. For guidance on safe preparation, including water temperature recommendations to reduce the risk of Cronobacter, consult your pediatrician or refer to WHO and CDC guidelines.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

Is Kendamil Classic Stage 1 suitable from birth?

Yes, Kendamil Classic Stage 1 is specially designed for infants from birth up to 6 months of age. This first infant formula provides complete nutrition for your baby during these crucial early months. Whether you're exclusively formula feeding or supplementing alongside breastfeeding, Kendamil Classic Stage 1 offers all the essential nutrients your little one needs for healthy growth and development.

What makes Kendamil Classic Stage 1 different from other infant formulas?

Kendamil Classic Stage 1 stands out with its unique whole milk base, which naturally contains milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) that supports cognitive development and immune function. The formula features a 60:40 whey to casein ratio that mirrors breast milk for easier digestion. Additionally, it's made without palm oil, soy, GMOs, corn syrup, or synthetic additives. The plant-based DHA sourced from marine algae makes it suitable for vegetarian families, and it's both Kosher and Halal approved.

Does Kendamil Classic Stage 1 contain prebiotics and what are their benefits?

Yes, Kendamil Classic Stage 1 contains galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) from milk, which are natural prebiotics. These prebiotics help promote a healthy gut microbiome in your baby, supporting smooth digestion and potentially reducing digestive discomfort. The prebiotics work to encourage the growth of beneficial bacteria in your baby's digestive system, which can contribute to overall digestive health and comfort. This is particularly important for supporting your little one's developing digestive system during their first months of life.

How should I prepare Kendamil Classic Stage 1 formula correctly?

To prepare Kendamil Classic Stage 1, first boil fresh drinking water and allow it to cool to approximately 40-50°C (104-122°F). Add the recommended amount of water to a sterilized bottle according to the feeding chart on the package. Using the provided measuring spoon, add the correct number of level scoops of formula powder to the water. Close the bottle securely and shake thoroughly until the powder is completely dissolved. Always cool the prepared formula to drinking temperature (around 37°C/98.6°F) and test it on your wrist before feeding. Remember to use the formula within one hour of preparation and discard any leftover formula.

Where is Kendamil Classic Stage 1 made and what quality standards does it meet?

Kendamil Classic Stage 1 is proudly made in the pristine UNESCO World Heritage UK Lake District on family-run farms.
