HiPP Dutch Organic Formula Stage 1 for Newborns 0 to 6 Months

HiPP Dutch Organic Formula Stage 1 is a certified EU-organic infant formula designed for babies from birth to 6 months. It is made with organic skimmed cow's milk and follows the HiPP Combiotik recipe, with GOS prebiotics and natural lactic acid cultures. As with all infant formulas, breast milk remains the ideal first choice, and we encourage parents to speak with a pediatrician before introducing or changing formula.

Over 125 Years of Family Expertise in Infant Nutrition

HiPP has been making baby food since 1899, when Joseph and Maria Hipp's confectionery in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Germany produced the first baby food from rusk flour. The company is now in its fourth generation under Stefan Hipp and applies its own HiPP organic standard, which it states goes beyond the requirements of the EU organic regulation.

Each can carries the EU organic leaf with the control-body code DE-ÖKO-001 (EU/non-EU Agriculture) and the Controle Certisys organic inspection mark, confirming that the ingredients come from certified organic farming. The formula is produced in Germany and is not Demeter certified.

What Makes HiPP Dutch Stage 1 Different

The Dutch line is a popular choice among parents looking for an EU organic cow's milk formula without added starch. HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is formulated with lactose as the sole carbohydrate source, with no maltodextrin or starch listed in the ingredient panel.

The formula includes the HiPP Combiotik combination of GOS (galacto-oligosaccharides) from lactose plus natural lactic acid cultures. GOS and lactic acid cultures are also present in breast milk, which remains the first choice for infant feeding.

Ingredients and Composition

The protein base is organic skimmed cow's milk (Magere melk) combined with organic whey product (weiproduct), providing a whey-dominant protein profile appropriate for newborns. Carbohydrates come from lactose only, with no added starch or maltodextrin. The vegetable oil blend contains organic palm oil alongside other organic plant oils.

DHA is derived from fish oil, and ARA is present via Mortierella alpina oil. The protein is not hydrolyzed, making this a standard formula for healthy infants without a confirmed cow's milk protein allergy.

Authentic European Quality, Shipped to the US

European infant formula is produced under EU Regulation 2016/127, which mandates DHA in all infant formulas, a standard not yet required in the US. Organic Formula Europe ships authentic, factory-sealed cans directly from Europe so that US families can access the same formula sold in Dutch and German pharmacies.

Every can you receive is the genuine Dutch-market product, with a European-format expiration date (DD/MM/YYYY). Our team verifies each shipment for freshness and integrity before it leaves our warehouse.

Preparation and Everyday Use

Always follow the preparation instructions printed on the can. Use freshly boiled water that has been allowed to cool, and prepare each bottle fresh to minimize bacterial risk. Powdered infant formula is not sterile; for higher-risk infants, consult CDC or WHO guidance on safe water temperatures.

If your baby is approaching 6 months and you are considering the next step, HiPP formula Stage 2 is available to support the transition to complementary feeding.

How to Prepare Powdered Formula

  1. Boil fresh water for each feed and let it cool to the temperature printed on your can. Powdered infant formula is not sterile, so the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants. Follow your can's instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby.
  2. Pour about two-thirds of the required water into a clean, sterilized bottle.
  3. Use only the scoop provided with your formula pack (sizes may vary). Add the correct number of level scoops - 1 scoop per 1 oz / 30 ml of water.
  4. Close the bottle with the nipple and cap. Shake vigorously until all powder is dissolved.
  5. Add the remaining water and shake again.
  6. Cool to drinking temperature (approx. 98 °F / 37 °C). Always test the milk temperature before feeding to avoid scalding your baby.

Important Information

  1. Only use the scoop included in the package.
  2. Do not make feeds weaker or stronger than indicated. Do not add extra water, scoops, or other ingredients.
  3. Always prepare fresh. Do not prepare bottles in advance. Discard any leftovers after each feed.
  4. Never heat bottles in the microwave - hot spots can cause burns.
  5. Once opened, use formula within 21 days. Never use beyond the expiration date printed on the box/tin (format: day/month/year).
  6. Avoid storing formula in hot or humid environments.

Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants. Please consult your pediatrician before introducing or changing infant formula. Infant formula is designed to meet the nutritional requirements of infants according to age. It contains carbohydrates, which are an essential part of infant nutrition. As with any carbohydrate-containing liquids, frequent or prolonged contact with the teeth may increase the risk of tooth decay. To support healthy dental habits, avoid extended bottle use and encourage transitioning to a cup when age-appropriate.

Packaging may change without notice. Always follow the preparation, storage, and feeding instructions provided on your product packaging.

What makes HiPP Dutch Organic Formula Stage 1 different from other infant formulas?

HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is a trusted European organic baby formula, manufactured in Germany for the Dutch market. It contains GOS prebiotics and natural lactic acid cultures, plus essential omega-3 (ALA) and omega-6 (LA) fatty acids and added DHA. As a certified organic formula it is made without genetically modified ingredients and without added sugars, starch or gluten, and its only carbohydrate is naturally occurring lactose. These statements describe the composition of the formula and have not been evaluated by the FDA.

Can HiPP Dutch Stage 1 be used as the sole source of nutrition when breastfeeding is not possible?

Yes. HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is formulated to provide complete nutrition for infants from birth to 6 months and can be used as the sole source of feeding. It contains vitamins A, C and D, iron, and natural lactic acid cultures that are also present in breast milk. Breast milk is the best source of nutrition for infants; use formula on the advice of a healthcare professional, and always consult your pediatrician before changing your baby's feeding.

How should I prepare and store HiPP Dutch Stage 1 formula?

Proper preparation is important for your baby's safety. Wash your hands and sterilize all feeding equipment before use. Boil fresh water and let it cool. HiPP prints a preparation temperature of about 104°F to 122°F (40°C to 50°C) on the can to protect its natural lactic acid cultures. Because powdered infant formula is not sterile, the CDC and WHO advise that water at about 158°F (70°C) lowers the risk of Cronobacter, especially for newborns and higher-risk infants; follow the can instructions and ask your pediatrician which approach is right for your baby. Use the provided scoop to add the correct amount of powder. Each 800 g can includes a 4.3 g scoop and makes about 62 bottles of 100 ml (about 6.2 litres, roughly 210 fl oz). Never reuse leftover formula, and prepare a fresh bottle for each feed. Store the unopened can in a cool, dry place, and once opened, use within 3 weeks.

What are the main ingredients in HiPP Dutch Stage 1, and why are they important?

The foundation of HiPP Dutch Formula is organic skimmed milk and whey, providing high-quality proteins that are gentle on developing digestive systems. The formula includes carefully selected organic vegetable oils that supply essential fatty acids, while galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) act as prebiotics. The formula also contains added DHA from fish oil, which EU legislation requires in all infant formula.
The formula is enriched with essential amino acids like L-phenylalanine and L-tryptophan, plus a comprehensive blend of vitamins and minerals tailored to meet your baby's nutritional needs during their first six months.

When should I transition from HiPP Dutch Stage 1 to Stage 2?

HiPP Dutch Stage 1 is specifically designed for babies from birth to 6 months. As your baby approaches 6 months and begins showing signs of readiness for solid foods, you can transition to HiPP Dutch Stage 2. Signs that your baby may be ready include sitting up with support, showing interest in your food, and seeming hungry even after full formula feedings. The transition should be gradual, and many parents find it helpful to mix stages initially to help their baby adjust. Remember that every baby develops at their own pace, so consult with your pediatrician to determine the best timing for your little one's transition.
